Summer Musings...

Aloha friends,

Are you feeling it? Summer is finally here and even out here in SF's Richmond district, life feels warm, sunny and bright. The season began with an awesome weekend of movement medicine and connection at Enchanted Forest Gathering up in Mendocino where I taught a Yin Yoga and meditation workshop. We enjoyed a misty and magical practice as the cleansing rain came down through the dome. I felt so deeply grateful to be surrounded by some of my nearest an dearest friends that weekend, it was a truly special time on some beautiful, sacred land.

Since then, I have been listening to the call of this season's fire within my soul, which inspires me to expand, to open, and to step into my big-ness more than ever before. The presence of the element of fire during Summer inspires stirrings of passion in our souls, and turns up the volume on our heart's desires. What is it that you REALLY WANT in this life? What's blocking you from living your life fully? What are you afraid of? How are you honoring this fire within you? As the fires of transformation burn away beliefs, habits, and conditioning that no longer serves us, it can sometimes leave us feeling unsteady. Sometimes it totally nourishes and charges us up! I have come to believe that this kind of breaking down is really a breaking through. However it shows up for you, it's always important to find balance and ground into the ritual of your practice, whether it's taking a refreshing walk out in nature, spending time with your tribe, or stepping onto your yoga mat to go inward and just be.

Here are some great practices for balancing this fiery energy:

~ Move your body! Dance, run, or practice some playful Vinyasa. Any way you can shake it and consciously channel that wild energy! Surya Namaskar A's honor and welcome in the solar/masculine/Yang energy of the summertime.

~ Recharge and ground in nature.

~ Practice some balancing Pranayama such as Nadi Shodana (Alternative Nostril Breathing) for a soothing and cooling effect.

~ Try out a Yin or Restorative yoga class to embody the cool/lunar/receptive qualities of the feminine.

~ Eat plenty of fresh organic fruits and veggies from the earth, and stay hydrated!
